As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida, here’s the potential impact on sports.
Teams not affected by Milton:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: at New Orleans on Sunday
Jacksonville Jaguars: vs Bears in London on Sunday
Miami Dolphins: on bye
University of Miami: on bye
University of Florida: at Tennessee on Saturday
Florida State University: on bye
Orlando SC: no game scheduled this week
Teams/events likely to be affected by Milton:
University of South Florida: Friday game vs Memphis has been rescheduled to Saturday at 3:30pm
University of Central Florida: hosting Cincinnati in Orlando on Saturday
Tampa Bay Lightning: home vs Carolina on Saturday has been postponed. The Vancouver on Tuesday is still scheduled.
Orlando Magic: home vs New Orleans on Friday has been canceled
LPGA qualifiers for Q-Series: originally scheduled to start 10/13 in Venice, FL, now on hold
Given the size of the storm, the potentially devastating impact, and the fact that the region is still recovering from Hurricane Helene, we are pretty shocked that any of these events would carry on this weekend. Although we are not in the weather forecasting business at TSI, we would recommend thinking very carefully about any potential travel plans you have for sports this weekend anywhere in the central to north Florida region. Even if the storm is over by the weekend, power outages, food shortages, and general chaos could certainly be the case, and we can’t see how that’s possibly worth risking in order to attend sporting events. Our advice: stay away and let the area focus all of their resources on taking care of its residents.
