Attention travelers! The formerly Oakland A’s, who are now playing in Sacramento for the next three seasons, announced the game times for their 2025 schedule today. While this is always a noteworthy item for all teams when it comes to trip planning, with so many people looking to head to Sacramento to check out an MLB team playing in an MiLB ballpark, it’s particularly important for the A’s.
The team will have 60 night games, which is good news since the daytime temperature in Sacramento during the summer can reach into the 100’s. Of the 21 day games being played, 11 will be in April and May when temperatures are less extreme. Which means that only 10 games will be played during the day from June through September, with eight of those games being played on Sundays.
The thing to note about this is the lack of “jump days”, which are afternoon games on the last day of a series. Typically MLB will schedule those “jump days” so teams can play an afternoon game and then get to the airport to “jump” to their next destination.
For fans, those serve as jump days as well since they can see an afternoon game and then catch an evening flight, thus avoiding a paid hotel night.
But with the extreme daytime temperatures in Sacramento, it looks like MLB decided to push those typical day games to the evening timeslots during the week (they are likely keeping the Sunday afternoon games because they are popular with families).
For travelers, it means that it may be difficult to stick around for the third day of a weekday series without paying for an extra hotel night. And keep in mind, Sacramento isn’t a hub for any airline, so flight schedules are limited to begin with.
IS THIS A BIG DEAL?
We don’t think so. Sutter Health Park, the stadium where the A’s will be playing, is a 14,000-seat ballpark, and while we think it will be really interesting to see MLB games played there, there’s a limited gameday experience and a smaller variety of seating options. So, two games should be plenty for fans to check it out and get the full experience.
Our suggestion would be to head to Sacramento for a game or two, and then drive the 2.5 hours on the jump day to catch a game at Oracle Park in San Francisco. Once the Giants release their game times, we’ll report back on potential A’s/Giants doubleheader opportunities that won’t require a hotel stay in San Francisco.
Happy planning! Here’s the link to the A’s schedule.
