Schedule Scout: Detroit Lions 2025
Whether you’re heading to see some sports in the Motor City or following the Lions on the road this year, we’ve got everything you need to know to plan the best sports roadtrips this season.
For this Schedule Scout, we’ve included Eastern Michigan (40 miles), the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (45 miles), and Michigan State (90 miles). Michigan is an especially great road trip because it’s hard to beat the sheer size and spectacle of The Big House.

What we like
Start on Thursday with a 3:10 first pitch at American Family Field for Brewers vs. Phillies. Check out Milwaukee on Friday during an off-day, and then get over to Camp Randall in Madison (85 miles) on Saturday for Wisconsin vs. Middle Tennessee State. Then drive 2.5 hours/140 miles north for the main event on Sunday in Green Bay: Packers vs. Lions (and you’ll have plenty of time, since it’s the 3:25 kickoff). If you really want more, head down to Chicago for Monday night football between the Bears and Vikings.

What we like
This is the first of four weekends this season where the Ravens and Commanders both have home games in the same weekend, and on separate days, so you could see them both. This weekend starts with the Yankees coming into town to visit the Orioles, so that’s a great way to spend a Friday and/or Saturday night. If you want to see the Commanders-Raiders game in DC, you can head down that way on Sunday, or go right back to Camden Yards for the 1:35 Orioles-Yankees game. Then, on Monday night, it’s the huge Ravens-Lions game.

What we like
This is the first of four weekends this season where the Ravens and Commanders both have home games in the same weekend, and on separate days, so you could see them both. What we like
If you start on Thursday, the Red Wings host the Sabres at Little Caesars Arena for preseason hockey. Friday is quiet, but on Saturday, Zach Bryan and John Mayer are playing a one-off concert at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. No, it’s not a football game, but if you’d like to see the Big House (and like the musicians), then it’s a good opportunity. And it’s less than 50 miles from downtown Detroit, so you can easily get back for Lions-Browns on Sunday.

There isn’t much else in sports happening in Philly this weekend, but if you were really crazy, you could catch the Giants-Packers game at 1pm in the Meadowlands, and then race the 98 miles down I-95 to catch the Sunday night Eagles-Lions game. If you’re driving and get out of the parking lot at MetLife quickly, this is absolutely doable.

What we like
If you have the stamina to keep up, you can crunch three games into less than 24 hours this weekend in Detroit. On Saturday night, the Pistons host the Hornets. The next day, there’s a 1pm Red Wings-Capitals game, and then, a 10-minute walk down the street, it’s the Lions vs. Steelers. Even if the hockey game ran three hours, you could still be in your seat for kickoff at Ford Field.

Are you in the mood for some bitterly cold weather on Christmas Day? If so, welcome to Minnesota! The Vikings and the Lions are the middle game on Christmas, so you would even have time for an early holiday dinner before heading to the stadium. If you want to stick around for the weekend, the T’Wolves play the Nets on Saturday night at Target Center.

Bottom Line
If you’re looking for a great sports weekend in Michigan, we love the Week 7 schedule – Red Wings, Michigan, and Lions all in one weekend. For rivalries, nothing can beat Week 13 (Thanksgiving) for Lions-Packers and Michigan-Ohio State. And in Week 16, you can get the Pistons, Red Wings, and Lions in less than 24 hours.
If you’re gonna follow the Lions on the road, we like the Week 10 Wizards/UVA/Commanders lineup. And maybe the Week 11 Philly/New York combo weekend.
