It’s America’s team! Whether you believe that or not, it’s hard to argue with the fact that Cowboys fans are everywhere – and travel everywhere as well. The Dallas metro area has teams in six major sports: the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, and WNBA, as well as multiple college teams. So there’s often plenty going on. And for those who want a little more sports adventure, the Texas Longhorns are in Austin, a three-hour drive away from Arlington.

What we like
It’s the NFL opener on Thursday night, which will give you the entire weekend to do other things. You could go to Baltimore on Friday for Orioles vs. Dodgers at Camden Yards, and/or head to Happy Valley on Saturday for Penn State. It’s Thanksgiving, and you know what that means: a Dallas Cowboys home game. And boy did they schedule a good one this year – against the Chiefs. It’s the late afternoon game, so there’s plenty of time for pregaming, or maybe grabbing an early afternoon Thanksgiving meal at an open restaurant. Twas the weekend before Christmas, and Dallas is … a little quiet. It’s Chargers at Cowboys at noon on Sunday, and if you want you can head to downtown Dallas afterwards for some hockey. Otherwise, perhaps a little last-minute gift shopping is in order?

What we like
It’s pretty rare that a late-season Commanders-Cowboys game could have meaning. Is this when that all changes? The NFL hopes so, since they scheduled it for Christmas night. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to make it out of the Northwest Stadium parking lot in time for the Wizards game the next night at Capital One Arena. If not, the Wizards are also at home on Sunday.

If you have the guts to do the Big Apple for New Year’s, there are plenty of sports choices for you. After watching the ball drop in Times Square, there’s a home Knicks game on Friday, the Devils, Islanders, and Knicks are all also home on Saturday, and the Giants and Cowboys will face off at a time still TBD on Sunday. If it’s an early game, you could meander up the road to Newark for the Devils game at 7pm as well.

Bottom Line
Jerry World may be 15 years old, but it’s still every bit the spectacle today as when it opened. And for many games, half the stadium seems to be rooting for the visiting team. So if you’re planning to visit Dallas for a game, you’ll likely have plenty of company.
