The Kansas City Chiefs announced that they will be leaving Arrowhead Stadium after the completion of the 2030 season and will begin playing in a new stadium built across the state line in Kansas in 2031.
The new venue will have a domed roof, and will be located adjacent to the Kansas Speedway and Children’s Mercy Park, the home of MLS’ Sporting KC. It is also expected to be part of a larger commercial development effort.
The news is certainly bittersweet for Chiefs fans. Arrowhead Stadium has been and continues to be one of the most popular stadiums in the NFL, renowned for its expansive tailgating environment, as well as for being the loudest outdoor stadium in the world (according to Guinness World Records). But despite its popularity, the stadium’s age has made it increasingly necessary for the team to consider either another massive redevelopment of the current stadium, or to move to a new one. A $375 million renovation project was completed in 2010, but that wasn’t expected to put an end to the need for a new stadium.
You probably still have time to see your team play at Arrowhead

The good news is that, assuming this project develops as expected, fans will still have five more seasons to experience Arrowhead Stadium. Which means if you haven’t had the chance to see a game there, or would like to see one again, you’ll have plenty of opportunities.
The list of future opponents who are scheduled to visit Kansas City for a regular season game is only known through 2028. Those teams include:
Arizona Cardinals (2026)
Atlanta Falcons (2028)
Carolina Panthers (2028)
Cleveland Browns (2027)
Denver Broncos (annually)
Green Bay Packers (2027)
Jacksonville Jaguars (2028)
Las Vegas Raiders (annually)
Los Angeles Chargers (annually)
Minnesota Vikings (2027)
New England Patriots (2026)
New York Jets (2026)
Pittsburgh Steelers (2027)
San Francisco 49ers (2026)
Tennessee Titans (2028)
Additional opponents will be determined each year based on where the Chiefs finish in the standings. In 2026, the Chiefs will play the same-place opponent from the AFC South, in 2027 it will be the AFC East and NFC East, and in 2028 it will be the AFC East. Those matchups could potentially include up to four more unique opponents who will visit Arrowhead in the next three seasons.
There will be more opponents added for 2029 and 2030, so before the team moves in 2031, it’s very possible that at least 75% of NFL fan bases would be able to see their team play at the stadium before the team relocates.
Next steps

There’s nothing more for fans to do right now in terms of planning. If your team is scheduled to visit Arrowhead in the next three seasons, then it’s a good idea to start thinking about whether you can make the trip. But the NFL schedule for 2026 will not be released until May, so there’s plenty of time to start considering your plans.
We will say this: Arrowhead is a special experience, and absolutely worth visiting for a game. If you haven’t been, we would strongly recommend adding it to your sports roadtrip bucket list.
