There’s big news about a big event in the Lone Star state today. The Dallas Stars will host the 2027 Stadium Series game at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The game will take place on February 20, 2027. The opponent has not been announced.
For the Stars, it will be their second time hosting an outdoor game. The first was in 2020, when they played the Nashville Predators at the Cotton Bowl. That game drew over 85,000 fans, making it the third most attended NHL game in history. But AT&T Stadium has been averaging nearly 93,000 fans per game this season for Cowboys games, so there’s every reason to believe this game could eclipse that.
The biggest outdoor hockey game in history was the Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs game held at Michigan Stadium in 2014. That game drew a whopping 105,000 fans on New Year’s Day, with snow flurries to boot.
The weather won’t be anywhere near as colorful (or cold) in Dallas. The temperature at game time for the 2020 Cotton Bowl game was 55 degrees. That’s the same average temperature in Dallas on February 20th, but it won’t matter as much inside the climate-controlled environment of AT&T Stadium.
Next steps
The game is way too far away for any trip planning to begin, as neither airlines nor hotels will be available for booking this far in advance. We will alert you when the booking windows open for hotels.
There are currently no details regarding tickets for the game. As is standard with these special events, it’s expected that Dallas Stars season ticket holders (and season ticket holders for the visiting team, when it’s announced) will get a presale offer. So, if you’ve been thinking about buying a ticket package for the Stars, now would be a good time to look into it. But it’s hardly necessary: with a likely capacity of over 90,000, there will be plenty of tickets available during the public onsales.
You can register “interest” in the game here on the Stars’ website, but in addition to future info about the Stadium Series game, you’ll probably get a lot of other solicitations too.
Doubleheader Digest
Although it’s way too early to know what other events might be taking place in Dallas that weekend, we do know that the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks will be in-season in February, and the start of the MLS season will begin in February as well. Both schedules will be announced well in advance, allowing you to incorporate as many events into your weekend as possible.
