Another season, and another promotion for the Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC, who continue to live out a fairy tale sports dream as they rise through the ranks of English soccer. The club has journeyed from the fifth-tier National League to the second-tier EFL Championship in just three years, something that’s never been accomplished before.
Joining them via promotion from League One is Birmingham City, with minority owner Tom Brady; the third and final promotion team is still to be determined this month via a promotion playoff.
The EFL Championship presents Wrexham – and their now global fanbase – with a whole new lineup of opponents – and different stadiums to play in. Whereas the lower levels of English football stadiums can be more difficult to access geographically, the Championship League clubs are often in larger stadiums in bigger cities. Teams like Millwall, Watford, and QPR are all located in or around London, while clubs like West Bromwich and Birmingham are situated along the main train corridor from London to Manchester.
The 2025-26 EFL Championship regular season will kick off on August 8th and will run through May 3, 2026. The season will include 33 weekend rounds, nine mid-week rounds, and four Bank Holiday rounds. The season will conclude with the Championship playoff final on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The official fixtures will be released on Thursday, June 26th, so make sure you check that out when it’s released to plan your trip to see Wrexham on their historic run. You can find a cool feature on the EFL website that allows you to sync your calendar with the EFL schedule, which can be found here.
