In yet another sign that baseball is right around the corner, the Miami Marlins announced today their home opener festivities, which they have dubbed “Opening Dade”. The Marlins will open their 2025 campaign at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates on March 27th at 4:10pm.
Dan Marino will start the day off with a ceremonial first pitch, but the big headliners for the local crowd will be Flo Rida and Luis Fonsi, who will perform a free post-game concert.
Flo Rida is pretty well known for hits such as “Low” and “Club Can’t Handle Me”, but Luis Fonsi may be lesser known. That’s until you remember that his claim to fame was 2017’s mega-hit, Despacito.
While anyone who is familiar with Marlins baseball knows that the team desperately struggles to sell tickets, Opening Day is one of the exceptions to that rule. The Marlins regularly draw north of 33,000 fans for their home opener, so if this new concert announcement is of interest to you, it would make sense to start looking into tickets so you don’t get stuck on the Home Run Porch. You can purchase tickets directly from the team here, or from resale sites such as StubHub or SeatGeek.
In scheduling news, for those who are interested in a potential doubleheader, the Miami Heat will play the Atlanta Hawks at 7:30pm that night. Assuming a 4:10pm first pitch game ends by 6:45pm, it’s entirely possible that you could be in your seat at Kaseya Center by tip-off, since the stadiums are only three miles away from each other.
Meanwhile, the Florida Panthers will be at home on Friday 3/28 against Utah and Sunday 3/30 against Montreal, while Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will play on Saturday 3/29 against Philadelphia at 7:30pm. So if you’re looking for a good sports weekend to visit South Florida, this is an excellent opportunity to see four teams play over the course of just four days.
