With both the Heritage and Winter Classics both already set, the next domino to fall on the event schedule for the NHL was the Stadium Series, and now we have dates and matchups. The New Jersey Devils will “host” the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, February 17, and the New York Islanders will “host” the New York Rangers on Sunday, February 18, both at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
It’s a huge win for both New York and Philadelphia sports fans, as local fans for three of the four teams will not have to spend money on travel expenses, and fans from Philadelphia are just a short car or train ride away. For those coming from further away, Newark Airport is a major hub, along with nearby LaGuardia and JFK Airports, making this one of the easiest Stadium Series to travel to in quite some time.
Additional details such as game times and ticket information will be released at a later date. But if you’re planning to attend either game and are going to be traveling from outside the area, now would be a good time to look at hotel accommodations. There are plenty of options near Metlife Stadium, but also be sure to check out options in New York City in the event that you’d like to make a bigger vacation of it. While the 2023-24 NBA and NHL schedules haven’t been released, it’s a good bet that you’ll probably see either the Knicks or Nets in town around that time, and it’s also typical for the home teams in these outdoor games to play in their home arenas in the days leading up to the event. Beyond that, there will certainly be concerts and Broadway shows going on, so the Stadium Series might be an excellent opportunity to check some other events or venues off of your travel list.
