The NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars announced today that their game against Bay FC on Saturday June 8th will be played at Wrigley Field. The Red Stars home venue is Seatgeek Stadium in Bridgeview, but heightened interest in both the team and the league are creating opportunities for the move to larger venues for specific games.
While Wrigley Field has played host to a variety of events from college football to the NHL’s Winter Classic to even women’s lacrosse, this will be the first soccer match played at the iconic ballpark. The Cubs will be on an eight-day roadtrip while the game is being played.
Tickets for the match will go onsale to the general public at 10am on April 17th. Presales for Red Stars season ticket holders (April 11) and Cubs season tickets holders (April 15) will also be made available. There’s no update on ticket prices or about how to purchase tickets, but stay tuned for more details.
It’s hard to predict how strong ticket demand will be for this event. The Red Stars only averaged 4800 fans per game for their home games at Seatgeek Stadium in 2023, while Wrigley’s capacity is just north of 40,000 seats, which means they’ll have to sell 700% more than their average to fill that stadium up. And yet women’s sports is experiencing a boom in interest, and any event at Wrigley is sure to drive even greater enthusiasm. If you’re interested in attending, it would be a good idea to check out the onsales to see ticket prices and availability.
