The NFL announced today that the Pittsburgh Steelers will host a regular season game this season in Dublin, Ireland at Croke Park. The date and opponent won’t be released until May, likely a week or two before the full NFL schedule is released.
A game in Ireland has been rumored for some time now, so this announcement doesn’t come as much of a surprise. But the assignment of the Steelers as the home team at least helps Steelers fans start to contemplate whether they might want to make the trip.
For those fans who are interested, a quick look at flight schedules will show you that there are no current direct flights between Pittsburgh and Dublin. But Aer Lingus, Ireland’s main airline, is part of the Oneworld Alliance (with American Airlines and British Airways), and has codeshare agreements with United and JetBlue. So even though you’ll have to connect, there will be plenty of options through places like New York, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Toronto.
As far as likely opponents go, here’s the list of the Steelers home opponents for 2025:
- Baltimore
- Buffalo
- Cincinnati
- Cleveland
- Green Bay
- Indianapolis
- Miami
- Minnesota
- Seattle
As of now, Miami is already hosting an international game in Madrid in 2025, and the Colts are already scheduled to play in Berlin in 2025 as well. That doesn’t mean those teams couldn’t be tabbed as visiting opponents in Dublin, but we typically don’t see teams play abroad more than once a season, with the exception of the Jacksonville Jaguars, which typically have a home and away game each season.
So who it will be is hard to guess. We’d lean towards Cleveland, Minnesota, or Seattle, but we’ll find out for sure in May.
For fans that are interested, the NFL’s official travel partner, OnLocation, is taking $500 refundable deposits that will provide priority access to tickets. Of course those packages tend to be quite expensive, and fans can often book cheaper travel plans on their own, but this in option if you are absolutely sure you want to go and want to ensure yourself tickets without having to go through a public onsale.
