Schedule Scout: Kansas City Chiefs 2025

The Stadium Insiders Kansas City Chiefs Schedule Scout Banner

Football season is back, and with it comes 17 weeks of potential Chiefs road trips. Whether you live in Kansas City and want to hit the road, or live somewhere else and are coming to Arrowhead, we’ve got all the info you need on how to plan the best road trips anchored around the Chiefs’ schedule.

For this Schedule Scout, we’ve included the University of Kansas (45 miles), Kansas State (120 miles), the University of Missouri (130 miles), and the University of Nebraska (200 miles). Some might find them too far for a road trip, but for others, they might be just what they’re looking for.

Week 1: September 4-8, Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Thursday 9/4
Friday 9/5
Saturday 9/6
Sunday 9/7
Monday 9/8
Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil, 5:00pm BRT

*All times local to game location.

What we like

The best bet for seeing other sports in São Paulo for kickoff weekend would have been soccer, but, unfortunately, the local teams are not playing that weekend, as the Serie A league is on a bye. But there will be plenty to see in São Paulo, or even Rio!

Playoff intensity comes early to KC with the Eagles – and Eagles fans – in town. As a Saturday appetizer, you could head to Lincoln for Nebraska vs. HCU, to Mizzou for their game against Louisiana, or stay in town to catch the NWSL’s Current host Washington on Saturday night. With the late kickoff on Sunday, you’ve got plenty of time to check out the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum or the College Basketball Hall of Fame before heading to Arrowhead.

A lot is happening in New York this weekend. On Friday, you can see Yankee Stadium in its soccer configuration when NYCFC hosts Charlotte. On Saturday, it’s Nats at Mets at 4:10, and then Chappelle Roan is playing just down the street from Citi Field. On Sunday, you can head to Newark to see the Rangers play the Devils in a preseason game, and go straight from Prudential Center to MetLife Stadium and have plenty of time for pregame festivities.

What we like

It’s a weekend of great choices in the Kansas City area. On Friday night, you can check out CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas Current (NWSL), for a match against the Chicago Stars. On Saturday, take your pick of college football games at Kansas (40 miles), Kansas State (125 miles), or Mizzou (130 miles). Or, if you’d prefer, just hang out in KC eating BBQ, and wander over to see Blink-182 at T-Mobile Center. On Sunday, it’s a 3:25 kickoff for Chiefs-Ravens, which gives you plenty of time for what is largely considered to be the best tailgating in the NFL (get a rental car, grab some ribs and a cooler on the way, and you’ll be all set).

What we like

With the Chiefs and Jags playing on Monday night, you’ve got the entire weekend to roam the state watching sports. You could start in Tampa on Thursday for some preseason hockey at the Lightning, and stay in town on Saturday for USF-Charlotte at Raymond James Stadium. On Saturday, you could head to Gainesville for Florida hosting Texas in The Swamp. On Sunday, it’s an open day – maybe some beach time, maybe Disney World? And then you’ve got plenty of time on Monday to get to Jacksonville for the game.

What we like

If you can pull your focus away from the HUGE Chiefs-Lions game on Sunday night, you’ll see that there’s also sports to be seen on Saturday. You can jump in the car and drive either to K-State (120 miles) or Mizzou (130 miles), or just hang in town and watch the KC Current at their new CPKC Stadium just north of downtown. Whatever you choose, be sure to leave enough time for BBQ.

*All times local to game location.

What we like

This is one of the quieter weekends on the schedule for Kansas City. But that just leaves more time for BBQ. On Saturday, you can catch Sporting KC take on the Houston Dynamo at Children’s Mercy Park. Which will leave you with plenty of time to explore KC before Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

Northwestern @ Nebraska, TBD (NCAA-F)

Michigan State @ Nebraska, 7:30pm (NCAA-WV)

What we like

Another prime time game, this time on Monday night under the lights against the Commanders. But the schedule gods gave us a gift for this weekend. Lincoln is a bit of a haul, but you can see the women’s volleyball team play Northwestern on Friday night, and then the men’s football team play Northwestern on Saturday. And you don’t have to hurry back to KC since you’ve got until Monday for the game.

It’s hard to imagine even caring about anything else but this mega-matchup. But there’s a whole slate of sports happening this weekend in/around Buffalo. On Friday, Syracuse is at home to UNC. On Saturday, you can catch the Sabres hosting the Capitals at KeyBank Center. And then, on Sunday, it’s the 4:25 kickoff for Bills-Chiefs, which means you’ve got all day to eat wings, drink beer, and crash into tables.

What we like

Well, they all can’t be road trip winners, and this is the quietest weekend you’ll find in KC all season. But that just means you’ve got plenty of time to explore Kansas City, including the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the College Basketball Hall of Fame, The Plaza, Power & Light District, and, of course, some local beers and BBQ.

What we like

It’s Thanksgiving, and you know what that means: a Dallas Cowboys home game. And boy did they schedule a good one this year – against the Chiefs. It’s the late afternoon game, so there’s plenty of time for pregaming, or maybe grabbing an early afternoon Thanksgiving meal at an open restaurant. If you recover from that in time, you can see the Dallas Stars at home on Friday, and TCU, North Texas, or Baylor on Saturday for college football. All while having plenty of time for some Texas barbecue.

And if you’re looking for a holiday bonus, the Opry Country Christmas is at the Grand Ole Opry on Monday night. We don’t know exactly what that is, but if it sounds like something you’d like, you should take a look.

What we like

It’s Las Vegas at New Year’s, so the list of things going on is too long to print. We won’t know the final date and time for the football game for a while yet, but it will either be on Saturday or Sunday. One thing we do know that’s happening will be the Las Vegas Bowl on 12/31 (not pictured), featuring a team from the Big 10 vs. a team from the Pac 12. Other than that, the Golden Knights aren’t at home, so you’ll have plenty of time for concerts or shows … or gambling, or buffets, or whatever.

Bottom Line

If you’re planning on a Chiefs game this year, there are plenty of opportunities to turn your trip into something a bit more. If you’re heading to KC, the first half of the season will offer more sporting events to see than the second half, as it gets a little quieter once the Royals, Sporting KC, and the Current stop playing. But there are some great opportunities to combine your NFL visit with some college football at Kansas, Kansas State, Mizzou, or Nebraska.

If you’re seeing the Chiefs on the road, Week 3 at the Giants has a ton of great stuff going on, the mega-matchup in Buffalo is another good road trip, and the holiday games in Dallas and Nashville have promise as well.
