We figured something like this was on its way: MLB making adjustments to the Rays’ schedule following the decision for the team to play outdoors at Steinbrenner Field in 2025 while Tropicana Field is (or maybe isn’t) undergoing repairs from damage suffered from Hurricane Milton.
After MLB took steps to address heat issues in Sacramento by reducing the number of afternoon games played during the summer there, it made sense that they would also look at the Rays schedule to account for issues of both heat and rain.
The Rays’ home and home series against the Los Angeles Angels was swapped. The three-game series originally scheduled at Angel Stadium from April 7-9 will now take place at Steinbrenner Field on April 8-10.
On the back end of the schedule, the three-game series originally scheduled for Tropicana Field from August 5-7 will now be played at Angel Stadium on August 4-6.
The other affected series comes against the Minnesota Twins. The games originally scheduled for Target Field in Minneapolis on 5/26-5/28 will now be played in Tampa on those dates. The games originally scheduled to be played in Tampa from 7/4-7/6 will now be played at Target Field in Minneapolis.
In the end, here’s what the home schedule distribution looks like for the Rays in 2025:
March/April: 21 games
May: 16 games
June: 14 games
July: 8 games
August: 8 games
September: 14 games
From June 23 to August 31 (70 days), the Rays will only play 17 home games. But in April, they have a massive 13-day home stand. So if you’re planning to catch a game in Tampa next summer, take a close look at the schedule and plan accordingly. The good news is that March, April and May are great vacation months to be in Tampa Bay.
