Finalissima is (partially) set

by | Jul 15, 2024

With the Euro and Copa 2024 tournaments now with new reigning champions, where does the soccer world turn its attention next? Well, of course, there’s the Olympics in Paris this summer. And all eyes are on the 2026 World Cup being hosted in North America. But it might be easy to miss another match on the international calendar:  The Finalissima.

What is that, you ask? Well, it’s the one-off matchup between the 2024 Copa and Euro tournament champions. So Spain and Argentina will square off in yet another “winner take all” match, this one in the summer of 2025.

Details on the event haven’t been announced yet. The inaugural event in 2022 was held at Wembley Stadium in London between Italy and Argentina on June 1st, but that’s no indication of where the 2025 version might be held.

In terms of geography, picking a spot like Miami or Atlanta might make sense in terms of travel geography for the two teams, but in terms of a TV audience, holding the event in Europe might make more sense.

For sports roadtrippers, an early June date, and a European location, would allow for a possible sports roadtrip that could include F1 Monaco (May 23-25) and the French Open (May 25–June 8).

We’ll keep you posted as details about the event are announced.
