Truist Park

Atlanta Braves Stadium Guide

Traveling to atlanta

If you’re new to visiting Atlanta, you’ll find that the area is fairly sprawled out. The airport is 10 miles southeast from the heart of downtown, and Tuist Park sits 15 miles northwest of downtown. In this chapter, we’ll help you determine the best way to get to Atlanta.

Quick Facts

Nearest Airport

Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) – 23 miles to ballpark (30-60+ min)

Distance to downtown

~12 miles north

Rideshare from atl to truist park

p

traffic is brutal, but cars rule here

There’s a joke amongst locals that Atlanta is an hour away from Atlanta because of the time it takes to get across the city. Atlanta lacks widely effective public transportation — none connect the ballpark to the airport or downtown. Most people drive.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)

There aren’t many cities that offer more convenient flight options than Atlanta. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) is home to Delta’s headquarters, but most airlines offer flight options to ATL. While Delta has the most nonstop flights across the U.S. to and from Hartsfield, Southwest alone has more than 24 nonstop destinations (including direct flights from 12 other MLB cities).

CATCHING A SUNDAY FLIGHT OUT?

You can probably catch a Sunday 1:35pm game at Truist Park and still fly out that evening — but book a flight departing 8:00pm or later. Factor in time to exit the ballpark, return to your hotel, get luggage, drive 20+ miles to the airport, return a rental car, check bags, and get through security. If you’re using rideshare and/or staying near the park with no checked bags, you can shave 30–45 minutes off.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

Renting a car or utilizing rideshares after arriving at ATL will be the only effective ways of getting to the ballpark area and its surrounding hotels, as they are not reasonably accessible by public transit.

Renting a car will give you the most freedom, but will also be more expensive. If you’re planning on roaming around Atlanta a lot, it’s a good call. But if you’re just in town for baseball, you’re better off using rideshares.

One important note: Truist Park does have luggage storage right outside of the ballpark. It is run by a third party, but there is room for a full-sized suitcase in the storage locker. Prices start at $12 for small bags. So even if you don’t stay right at The Battery, you can bring your luggage with you, store it, grab it after the game, and head right to the airport. That might open up the chances of you making a 7pm flight.

If you decide to stay downtown, you can take the subway (MARTA) from the airport to downtown or Midtown relatively easily to save some money. But you’ll want to book a hotel closer to a MARTA stop so you don’t have to walk too far with your bags, and you’ll still need a rideshare to get to the ballpark.

Traffic Alert

Truist Park is about 23 miles from the airport. In the middle of a weekday, the drive should take around 25–30 minutes, but heavy traffic in the early afternoons and evenings easily makes the trip an hour or longer. Use your navigation app (Waze is particularly effective in Atlanta) to find the fastest route, but plan ahead for delays.

Driving into the Atlanta metro area

Truist Park is located northwest of downtown Atlanta where I-75 and I-285 cross. A good rule of thumb is to allow extra time getting to the ballpark or your hotel, regardless of the time of day.

Rush hour guide

Morning: 7:00am – 10:00am — All roads into downtown are heavily congested

Evening: 3:00pm – 7:00pm — All roads leading away from downtown (including the route to the ballpark)

Insider Tip

If you plan to attend a weekday evening game, build in extra time for rush hour. Many parking lots can be a 15–20 minute walk from the stadium — factor that into your arrival time too.

Renting a Car

Renting a car from ATL is straightforward via the SkyTrain

Renting a car from the airport is easy and offers the most flexibility. Once you reach baggage claim, follow signs to SkyTrain, which zips you to the rental car center in about 10 minutes. Expect to spend $55–$65 per day, and reserve prior to arrival.

When returning, factor in an additional 20–30 minutes to return the car and catch the SkyTrain back to the terminal.

Weekend Rental Tip

If you fly in for a Friday evening game and leave Sunday after an afternoon game, you’ll most likely rent for three days, not two. Rental companies have about an hour grace period — so you’d be cutting it very close to avoid a third-day charge. Factor that into your budget.

Save on Parking

By our count, eight hotels near the ballpark offer free parking, and another four charge $15/night or less. If you get a good car rental rate and avoid high parking costs, renting becomes much more appealing.

Amtrak’s Crescent line is the only route through Atlanta

Traveling to Atlanta by train isn’t the most convenient option. Amtrak’s Crescent line is the only route that runs through Atlanta, connecting New Orleans to New York City.

Good to Know

If you travel by train, Amtrak’s Peachtree Station is located in Midtown, about 11 miles from Truist Park. From there, rideshare is the easiest way to the ballpark. The Crescent line does offer private bedroom cars with showers, and with more than one person, the cost is surprisingly reasonable.

Bottom Line

Plenty of flight options, coupled with decent fares (if you book early) make flying to Atlanta fairly easy. If driving suits your plans, it’s another great option and will make moving around the city a lot easier. Just be prepared to factor in additional time for Atlanta traffic. And while traveling by train isn’t convenient, it’s an option if you plan accordingly.
