How to get around to Truist Park

If there’s one thing Atlanta is lacking, it’s viable public transportation, and that’s especially true if you’re trying to get from the airport or downtown to Truist Park. Cars, whether it be your own, a rental, or rideshare, are the primary mode of transportation because everything is spread out. You’ll cover 23 miles just from the airport to Truist Park, and downtown is about 11 miles from both.

MARTA, Atlanta’s rapid transit system, does have a line from the airport to downtown, and covers most of the downtown area. However, there’s no service from downtown to Truist Park. So if you choose to stay downtown, you could utilize MARTA from the airport and around downtown, but you’ll still need wheels to get you to and from Truist Park for the game.

Renting a car

Renting a car from the airport is easy, and can offer the most flexibility during your trip to Truist Park. Once you reach baggage claim, follow the signs to Sky Train, which will zip you over to the rental car center in a quick 10 minutes. We definitely recommend reserving a car prior to your arrival, and expect to spend $55-$65 per day. When you come back to the airport, factor in an additional 20-30 minutes to return your car and catch the SkyTrain to the terminal.

One thing to note: if you travel in for a Friday evening game, and plan to fly out Sunday following an afternoon game, you’ll most likely be renting a car for three days, not two. Rental car companies usually have a grace period of about an hour, so you’d be cutting it pretty close to rent a car on Friday afternoon and return it early enough to avoid the third day charge. Factor that into your budget when you’re making your reservations.

TSI TIP: We put it on the chart on our Lodging page, but by our count, there are seven hotels near the ballpark that offer free parking, and another four that are $12/night or less. So factor that into your budgeting when thinking about renting a car. If you can get a good car rental rate, and also avoid high parking costs, then it may become much more appealing to rent a car.

Rideshare

If you prefer to let someone else do the driving, then Uber and Lyft are both suitable options for your trip to Truist Park.

If you plan to stay at The Battery Atlanta and Truist Park and not do much exploring around Atlanta, utilizing rideshare could save you time and more than a little money. For example, if you take an Uber/Lyft from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport to your hotel in or around The Battery, nearly everything will be walkable until it’s time to return to the airport. You’ll save time bypassing the rental car facility and also save on the cost of parking at the hotel each night.

Even if you were to take rideshares from The Battery to downtown for a day of sightseeing, you’d still likely come out ahead compared to the price of a rental car, parking, and gas.

Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta share the same pickup location for rideshare. It’s located along Windy Ridge Parkway at the north end of the Battery. If you’re leaving right after a game, exit the stadium through a gate that enters The Battery, and then follow down the right hand side until you see the signs directing you to the rideshare area.

As you can see, rideshares start to make a lot of sense if the focus of your trip is baseball, even if you add in some sightseeing. And the time savings with skipping the rental car center might make a huge difference when booking your return flight.

Hotel Shuttles

One of the easiest strategies for getting to the ballpark from a nearby hotel will be using a complimentary hotel shuttle. And it may make sense to focus your hotel search on those properties that have one, which include:

  • Wingate by Wyndham
  • Atlanta Marriott Northwest at Galleria
  • Springhill Suites Northwest (guests can use the next door Marriott shuttle)
  • Residence Inn Cumberland Galleria (dropoff only for night games. No return service after night games, no service for day games, no Sunday service)
  • Embassy Suites Galleria (for night games only)

CobbLinc Circulator: You can (and should) take a bus!

If you’re staying in the vicinity of the ballpark, but not inside of the Battery, Cobb County operates two Circulator bus routes that run in a loop around the area. The buses are clean, safe, run a schedule that is convenient to all ball games, and they are a great strategy for connecting from your hotel to the game. And best of all, they’re FREE!

The CobbLinc Circulator Green Route serves the north and east side of Truist Park and the Battery. There are several stops along Circle 75 Parkway where you can exit to access the Battery and Truist Park. If game traffic is heavy, hopping off at one of these stops (and walking a little) might save you some time. Otherwise, stay on until the last stop which drops inside of the Battery, between Jeni’s Ice Cream and Park Bench. This is the same bus stop you’ll want to walk to after a game to catch a ride back to your hotel or parking.

The CobbLinc Circulator Blue route services the south and west sides of the Battery and Truist Park. There’s only one convenient stop for the ballpark on this route, and it’s the same one inside of the Battery between Jeni’s Ice Cream and Park Bench.

Download the CobbLincBusTime app for Apple or Google-store based phones to view bus arrivals in live time. It’s also a great tool for locating the closest stop.

Walking

If you love getting your daily steps in, then walking the Battery and Truist Park area is perfect. The Omni, Aloft, AC Hotel, DoubleTree, and Hampton Inn are all located inside of the Battery. Once you arrive on site, there’s no need for transportation unless you choose to explore another area of the city. Anything within the Battery is a nice, flat walk with the exception of one or two small hills leading into some of the hotels or up to the rideshare area. It’s also a safe area, well lit, lots of people, and a substantial security presence throughout.

Just outside of the Battery, there are several hotels that are within walking distance. The Tru by Hilton, Spark by Hilton, Country Inn & Suites, and Motel 6 are located on the northside of the ballpark and have a sidewalk leading to the Battery and Truist Park. It’s just under a mile, and slightly uphill from the hotels to Truist Park, and should take around 20 minutes. This is also a safe walk, especially on game days.

The Renaissance Waverly is just to the south of Truist Park, and is accessible by a pedestrian bridge across the interstate. It’s a comfortable 15-20 minute walk, and safe.

Parking at the stadium

As we mentioned, this is definitely a ballpark where the majority of fans drive. If you plan to drive and park at the ballpark, we highly suggest you purchase parking prior to arrival, except for the Red, Yellow, and Purple Decks and we’ve explained why below. When it comes to choosing where to park, refer to the chart below. The closer to Truist Park you park, the more you’ll pay. You can find the Braves Parking Map here.

TSI Super Hack for parking: If you plan to arrive early to spend part of the day exploring the Battery, then try to park in the Red, Yellow, or Purple Deck without pre-purchasing, and enter the parking garage no less than four hours prior to the game (so no earlier than 12:10 for a 4:10pm game). On game days, the first 2 hours are free in the Red, Yellow, and Purple Decks, and if you spend a minimum of $50 combined at any merchants in the Battery (restaurants, bars, retail… anything), you can receive validated parking for the duration of the day. Just present them to a merchant once you’ve reached the threshold and they’ll validate your ticket.

BUT NOTE: on some game days, parking is extremely limited in these lots, so there’s always a chance you’ll be greeted with a “Lot Full” or “Pass Holder Only” sign. It’s worth the attempt to get complimentary parking, but you must have an alternate plan in mind in the event these lots are at capacity when you arrive. That backup plan can be as easy as taking out your phone and quickly purchasing a parking pass either from the Braves or from a resale site.

Choosing a parking lot

Picking a parking lot at Truist can be pretty confusing. The variables you need to consider are distance, price, walkability, and also… opening times. It’s that last one that is the unusual one – some lots open earlier than others, and if you want to be at the ballpark when the gates open, then you need to pick a lot that will allow you to park early enough to do so.

Some additional parking notes

  • There are a couple of parking lots that allow tailgating, but the overwhelming majority of fans will pregame in The Battery and inside the stadium
  • E32, E41, E43, E44, and E47 are all relatively close to a stop on the CobbLinc Circulator Green Line. So you can park and hop on the free bus to get to the ballpark

Bus from midtown Atlanta

A bright pink MARTA bus in Atlanta drives down the road with Olympic Centennial Park in the background

MARTA operates a bus line from Midtown Atlanta, non-stop to the Battery. However, this is not a mode of transportation we can suggest. It will cost you extra time, it’s only conveniently located for a few hotel properties, and it’s not a safe option after an evening game. Rideshare or a rental car is going to be your best bet.

Bottom Line

Cars are the best option for getting around Atlanta and to and from Truist Park. With no efficient public transportation option, renting a car or utilizing rideshare will give you the most flexibility in planning your itinerary, especially when traveling to and from the airport.

We really think that ridesharing will be best if you are going to focus on being at Truist Park, and the price chart above confirms that: you’ll save time, you’ll save money, and you’ll save hassle.

But if you plan on moving around Atlanta a lot, like going back and forth to downtown, or heading out to Six Flags, or other things around the city, then a rental car will be the best way to go.
