Where to stay for a Truist Park visit
When it comes to choosing the best place to stay during your visit to Truist Park, you’ve got a number of options. But given Truist Park’s suburban location, you’ll have to make a choice: stay close to the ballpark but away from other attractions, or stay close to the attractions but farther away from the ballpark.
In this chapter, we’ll cover the different areas of Atlanta that are most relevant for your visit so you can decide what will work best for you. In general, you’ll want to consider what your tourist priorities are and what your travel plans are, and make your lodging choices around them.
Where Truist Park is located
Truist Park is located 23 miles northwest of Hartsfield Airport, and 12 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta. If that doesn’t sound far, trust us: by Atlanta traffic standards, it is. Without traffic it may only take 20-25 minutes to drive there, but “without traffic” means you’re driving there at 11pm. In normal human hours, it’ll take more like 40-60 to get there from downtown, and since there’s no public transportation that connects downtown to the ballpark area, you’ll need to stick to a car – either your own or a rideshare.
So that’s why it’s important to figure out what you want to focus on while you’re visiting. If your primary focus is baseball, and you don’t plan on heading downtown for sightseeing, then staying near the ballpark will be your best call. And even if you do want to head downtown, staying near the ballpark may still be your best call, since it will eliminate the hassles associated with getting to/from the game around gametime.
In our opinion, here are the different hotel zones that would be relevant for a visit to Truist Park:
- Truist Park / The Battery
- Around Truist Park
- Downtown Atlanta
Staying near the ballpark
First, let’s explain The Battery. If you haven’t heard, when the Braves decided to build Truist Park, they wanted to make it a part of a larger entertainment and residential district. And talk to anyone from Atlanta and they’ll tell you – the Braves got it right.
The Battery has stuff going on all year round, not just during baseball season, but on baseball days it’s full of energy. There are bars, restaurants, retail shops, a concert venue, other entertainment options, and a lot of outdoor space for people to wander around and hang out. Oh… and there are hotels, too, right in the Battery or immediately surrounding it.
But there are also hotels a little further out… whether a 10-20 minute walk away, or a 5-15 minute drive/shuttle away. So there are multiple choices.
Staying in/at The Battery
What’s there: Truist Park, The Battery, restaurants, bars, retail
There’s no question that the most convenient place to stay for a visit to Truist Park will be right at or around The Battery, within walking distance to the ballpark.
The Omni Hotel, which you’ve probably seen in the outfield if you’ve watched Braves home games on TV, looms right over the ballpark, just past the outer wall of the stadium. It’s a beautiful hotel, but, as you might expect, it also comes with a premium price tag, which means that it isn’t for everyone.
But the good news is that there are other choices that are also within walking distance as well, including:
Hotel Walking Distance Pool Parking Breakfast Notes
Omni 2 mins, right next door to ballpark Outdoor $50/day valet Not included Can be prohibitively expensive
Aloft at the Battery 5 mins, easy walk No $30/day Not included
DoubleTree at the Battery 6 mins, easy walk Outdoor $30/day self Not included
Hampton Inn & Suites Galleria 10 mins, easy walk across pedestrian bridge Indoor Free parking Included Pets allowed
There are multiple benefits to staying at one of these properties. Obviously because they are just a quick walk from your hotel, there’s no worry about gameday traffic or finding parking. And you’re right in or next to The Battery, so there’s a ton of stuff to keep you busy. But don’t forget this one: if you’re trying to see a game on the same day that you are flying in or out of Atlanta, these hotels will give you the easiest opportunity to do that.
If you arrive at your hotel at 7pm, you can easily be in your seat in time for a 7:20 first pitch. But even more importantly, if you want to fly out after a Sunday 1:35 game, you can walk right back to your hotel, grab your luggage, jump in your rideshare or rental car, and be on your way. You’ll still probably want to not book a flight before 7:30/8:00pm, since driving back to Hartsfield, returning a car, checking bags, and getting through security will all take some time (a little less if you can eliminate some of those things). But still… staying at The Battery will probably save you a critical 30-60+ minutes by eliminating more time consuming transit back to your hotel.
Pros
- You’re right at the ballpark, no need to worry about transit time or parking.
- Also easiest for attending a game on the same day that you are traveling.
Cons
- Pricier than other options
- If you want to do sightseeing in Atlanta, you’ll have to travel to those destinations.
Staying near – but not at – the ballpark
If staying in the Battery isn’t an option, there are several options just outside of the perimeter of the Battery and Truist Park. Some of these properties are walkable to the ballpark, but others can easily be reached by utilizing the Cobb LINC Circulator bus (which is discussed in the Local Transit chapter), a hotel shuttle or rideshare.

If attending games at Truist Park is the top priority, one of these properties would be a great option. Oftentimes you can find more affordable rates than properties that are located in the Battery, and you’ll be close enough to Truist Park to not worry about driving in game day traffic or paying for parking at the ballpark. Just be sure to factor in at least an additional 30 minutes for getting to Truist Park because the area surrounding the Battery is quite congested on game days, even for the shuttles.
If you’re planning to fly home after a Sunday 1:35pm game, these are the next best alternatives to staying in the Battery. Walking to your hotel, grabbing your luggage, and taking your rental car or rideshare to the airport will be the most efficient. If walking isn’t an option, you can take the Cobb LINC Circulator or a rideshare to your hotel (and you can probably have it wait for you while you grab your bags).
Note that the buses run every 30 minutes and the time on the bus will be at least 20-30 minutes depending on your stop. By the time you’ve reached your hotel, your commute back to the airport should take 35-45 minutes, so we don’t suggest booking a flight before 8:00 p.m. on a Sunday evening.
Midtown/Downtown Atlanta
If the feel of a large city is more your speed, consider staying in Midtown or Downtown Atlanta. These two areas are located between 11-14 miles south of Truist Park, and are where you’ll find some of Atlanta’s top tourist attractions, including: World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, College Football Hall of Fame, Centennial Olympic Park, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Children’s Museum of Atlanta, Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Falcons), State Farm Arena (Hawks), and more.
You might not save a lot of cash by staying in these areas, but you’ll have access to many more restaurants and activities. As for getting to Truist Park, you’ll still need a rental car or rideshare. It should take you around 20-25 minutes to get to Truist Park without traffic, but with traffic you’ll want to factor in 35-45 minutes for the drive. Rideshare will cost at least $30 one-way from downtown to Truist Park.
Booking home rentals instead of hotels for visiting Truist Park
If you want more of the comforts of home during your stay, there are a few properties available within walking distance to Truist Park on AirBnB and VRBO. Most of the properties available are apartments or townhouses, but offer multiple bedrooms for the same cost as one hotel room in the area. Search “Truist Park” as the location on either site, then sort by closest distance to find available properties during your stay. Anything showing up less than a mile from Truist Park should be walkable and safe.
There are a few rentals accessible via the CobbLinc Circulator route, too. If you choose a property further out, then plan on taking rideshare or your car to the ballpark. The good news is that most of these properties offer free parking, which could save you a lot during your stay, especially if the property is a walkable distance to Truist Park.
How to choose between staying at the ballpark and staying downtown
If you do want to check out sites beyond the ballpark, then it’s a bit of a toss up in terms of which location to choose.
Location Pros Cons
Staying at or close to the ballpark • Don’t have to fight traffic close to game time • You’ll have to drive or rideshare to get to downtown for sightseeing
• Easiest to attend a ballgame on the same day that you are arriving or departing Atlanta
• Don’t have to pay for gameday parking
Staying close to downtown/midtown • You can take the subway to/from the airport if you’re staying at a station-adjacent hotel • You’ll have to travel to the ballpark via rideshare or rental car, pay for parking
• You’re close to the downtown attractions • Traffic will be challenging closer to game time
Our Advice
If it’s a toss up for you between staying at/near the ballpark or downtown, then we suggest staying closer to the ballpark. Dealing with Atlanta traffic is a pain, and we think you’ll have more fun if you can easily get to and from the ballpark with ease. If you want to see the sights downtown, then wait for the morning rush hour to pass, and then head into town. And then be sure to come back well before the afternoon rush hour.
Staying at the Battery is most convenient, but if it is price prohibitive, then stay at a nearby hotel. We’d suggest one that has a shuttle, although if it’s close enough, walking is a perfectly fine option. The area is safe, but some hotels will require a moderately uphill walk. You can also stay at a hotel that is on the bus line, and we think the bus is an excellent choice, even if it might not be the fastest option.
Bottom Line
If you have any time-related pressures with your itinerary, we strongly suggest either staying at the Battery, or staying at one of the hotels that is either close enough to walk to or offers a hotel shuttle. If time is on your side, then we say pick whichever hotel has the best rate but is still easy to get to, whether on foot, by shuttle, bus, or rideshare.
