The 2026 season is halfway over, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look ahead to 2027 travel opportunities. On July 16, MLB released its schedule for the 2027 regular season, featuring the earliest Opening Day ever and an All-Star Weekend at Wrigley Field.
Breaking down the 2027 schedule
14 games will be played on Opening Day, Thursday, March 25. On Wednesday, March 24, a pair of teams, who have not yet been selected, will face off on Netflix to open the season.
Over the late Memorial Day weekend (Memorial Day is May 31 next year), there will be multiple driving-distance matchups for fans to catch.

In 2027, July 4 falls on a Sunday, making July 5 the observed holiday date. But the regional travel schedule isn’t as strong for that weekend, with the Cardinals against the Cubs at Wrigley Field as the only reasonably drivable matchup.
Later in July, Wrigley Field will become the only active ballpark to have hosted four All-Star festivities, including the All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 13. It will be the first time since 1990 that the game has been played at the historic ballpark.
Following the break, MLB will host the third annual Rivalry Weekend, July 16-18, to kick off the second half of the season between 11 interleague, crosstown and cross-state pairs. The Houston Astros will face off against the Texas Rangers, the Cleveland Guardians against the Cincinnati Reds, the Yankees against the Mets, the Cubs against the White Sox, the Angels against the Dodgers, and more.
The Field of Dreams game will take place on August 12, 2027 between two yet-to-be-determined teams. The date of the Williamsport Little League Classic is still to be determined, which features an MLB game the night before the final Little League championship game.
Towards the close of the 2027 season, Labor Day presents one last chance to take an extra day to see a game. Over the weekend, the Cubs will play the Reds in Cincinnati, the Mets and Phillies in Philadelphia, the Diamondbacks and Angels in Anaheim, and the Tigers and Guardians in Cleveland.
Of note in stadium news, the Oakland Athletics will play their last season in California at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento before moving to Nevada. In 2028, they will move to a new baseball stadium on the Las Vegas Strip and will rebrand to the Las Vegas Athletics. They’ll play two series, from May 31 to June 5, at the minor league’s Las Vegas Ballpark against the San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds. So, for all California-based A’s fans, 2027 will be your last chance to see the Athletics in California as a home team.
