LIV “postpones” New Orleans tournament amid funding issues
As rumors continue to swirl about the financial future of LIV Golf, a scheduling rumor has now been confirmed: the tournament’s New Orleans event has been “postponed”.
The press release suggested that the event, originally scheduled for June 25-28 at Bayou Oaks, will be rescheduled to a “new window later this fall,” and that the postponement was due to the summer heat, a crowded sports calendar, and the course’s condition.
The problem is that the heat in New Orleans isn’t exactly a surprise, and was certainly known at the time the event was scheduled. And the same goes for the busy sports schedule: there are no surprise events that have suddenly popped up on the calendar.
What is known is that the Saudi Public Investment Fund was rumored two weeks ago to have pulled its support for the tournament, and today came the announcement that they would fund the tournament through the end of the 2026 season.
Which begs the question: if the funding is assured through the end of the season, was there a reason to cancel the New Orleans event (but no others)? Or was there something about that tournament that contributed to the decision, like weak ticket sales or low sponsorship dollars? We may not find out, but it’s obviously not ideal times at the LIV Golf offices.
Next Steps
If you were planning to attend the tournament in New Orleans, unfortunately, there is no additional ticketing information available. If the event were to be rescheduled, it’s possible that LIV would refuse to issue refunds to ticketholders.
While the ticket details for New Orleans have already been pulled off the website, the terms and conditions for the event in New Jersey read as follows:

The summary? LIV isn’t responsible for providing refunds for any reason. That doesn’t mean they won’t, but lawyers don’t make casual mistakes when it comes to strongly wording a one-sided agreement.
We will keep on this story to track future announcements. In the meantime, if you were scheduled to head to New Orleans, it seems safe to cancel your travel plans.
And if you have tickets for any other LIV Golf events this summer, keep a close eye on those as well. It would not surprise us if LIV canceled any other tournaments that might look to be underperforming financially.
