The NFL announced this week that the Washington Commanders will be the host team for a 2026 game at Tottenham Stadium in London. The date and opponent for the game won’t be released until May.
The Commanders just played in Europe last year, visiting the Bernabeu in Madrid as the visiting team against the Miami Dolphins. But this time they’ll be the home team, which will reduce the number of regular-season games they will play in Washington from nine to eight.
Who will the Commanders play in London?
The Commanders’ 2026 home schedule includes the following teams, and we’ve included their most recent international assignment:
Atlanta Falcons (Berlin 2025)
Cincinnati Bengals (London 2019)
Dallas Cowboys (London 2014)
Houston Texans (London 2019)
Indianapolis Colts (Berlin 2025)
Los Angeles Rams (London 2025)
New York Giants (Munich 2024)
Philadelphia Eagles (Sao Paulo 2024)
Seattle Seahawks (Munich 2022)
Of those teams, the Rams are already scheduled to play in Australia, so it would be unlikely for them to be assigned to a London game as well. But three teams on the list have not played an international game this decade: the Bengals, Cowboys, and Texans.
Would the NFL actually put the Cowboys on the road internationally? The Commanders certainly wouldn’t want to give up that home date, but the Cowboys can’t be immune from overseas assignments. But the Bengals and Texans would also seem quite overdue for an international trip, and both teams come with far less collateral schedule damage for the teams losing those games.
There’s no question that the Cowboys playing at Tottenham Stadium would be a major event, so this will be an interesting call. We’ll find out in May.
Next steps
The first thing to do is register for updates from the NFL about game details and tickets. You can sign up by clicking here.
Beyond that, it’s too early to book flights and hotels without knowing the game date. But if you’re a Commanders fan, you’ve got some time to start thinking about whether a trip to London is something that should be in your fall plans.
