Delta Center renovations to add 6000 more seats for Utah hockey

by | May 19, 2025

The Delta Center in Salt Lake City, the 33-year-old home of the Utah Jazz, is seeing some changes coming this offseason. After the Utah Hockey Club (now almost-officially dubbed the Utah Mammoth) relocated to the arena starting with the 2024-25 season, there were thousands of seats that did not translate well when the arena transitioned from basketball to ice hockey. In an attempt to fix this issue, the stadium will undergo a full renovation of the event floor and lower seating bowl.

Smith Entertainment Group (SEG), the parent company of both Utah franchises, is set to install a custom-designed seat riser that will eliminate obstructed views. The installation of this system will also increase the capacity for Mammoth games from just over 11,000 (the smallest in the NHL) to around 17,000, which will create more ticket opportunities for both home and visiting fans, not to mention potentially making resale prices less expensive.

The effect on basketball seating will be much less significant, only increasing capacity for Utah Jazz games by about 800 seats.

This construction project will be ready for the start of the 2025-26 NBA/NHL season and is the first project of a much grander plan for the Delta Center and the downtown district in Salt Lake City. SEG plans to work with city officials to invest close to $3B into the area, already having $900M of public funds approved for the project, with $525 million allocated for the Delta Center itself.
