Amex once again offering last-minute Wimbledon tickets

by | Jul 1, 2026

It’s Wimbledon time of year again, and once again, American Express is offering its cardmembers the chance to purchase last-minute tickets for Centre Court at the All-England Lawn and Tennis Club.

But if it were only that easy.

What is the Last Minute Tickets program?

Wimbledon 2026 ticket ballot is now open

American Express, as an official sponsor of the Wimbledon Championships, has access to a limited number of Centre Court tickets that they are able to make available to their cardholders. On its face, it would seem like a fantastic perk of having an Amex card, even if the chances of winning might be limited.

But the program has undergone a number of changes each year, and Amex does an absolutely horrible job of communicating how it works, which leaves most of their customers completely in the dark as to how to participate.

For example, there is no website that explains how the program works. And when customers reach out to Amex via social media, they are given responses like this:

But when you look at Amex UK’s social media, the last post they made on X was in 2024. And on Instagram and Facebook, despite plenty of recent posts, there is nothing about the Last Minute Tickets program (nor was there anything in 2025).

Confused yet? Yeah … so are we.

Our attempts to identify someone at American Express who could provide details were dead ends. We spoke to multiple customer service agents, none of whom had any idea how the program works, nor how to find those details, or who to transfer us to who might know.

The best source of information about the Amex Last Minute Tickets program is … Reddit

Yeah, that’s right. After scouring the internet, it seems clear that the best information about the program is on Reddit. Now, that doesn’t mean Reddit is necessarily correct. But they did seem to have the right information in 2025, and they have an expansive explanation of how it works for this year as well.

Here are the relevant details:

  • Tickets are usually available in pairs, but single tickets are sometimes available as well
  • Tickets are only for Centre Court (which includes access to the grounds)
  • Tickets are all face value
  • You must have an Amex card to participate, but that card can be issued in any country

The tickets are released in batches as follows:

Saturday, June 27 at 10am BST: tickets for days 1-7, June 29-July 5 (rounds 1-3)

Saturday, July 4 at 10am BST: tickets for days 8-12, July 6-10 (quarter and semifinals)

Thursday, July 9 at 10am BST: tickets for days 13-14, July 11-12 (Men’s and Women’s finals)

What that means is from the time the tickets become available, you would have two days to actually get to Wimbledon to use them. And if you’re coming from the U.S., it’s essentially one day given the time change.

So, if you were able to get tickets on July 9 for the Women’s finals on July 11, you’d have to get on a plane later that day in order to land on July 10 (the time change would make flying in on July 11 too difficult). But at least the 5am Eastern time onsale window would give you plenty of time to get to the airport of your choice for an evening flight across the pond.

But for the earlier rounds, you’d have a couple of extra days to get yourself to London on time.

How else to get tickets for Wimbledon

We wrote an extensive ticketing guide for Wimbledon last fall, which explains all of the various ways to get tickets. At this point, with the tournament already taking place, the most effective ways to get tickets will be via the Queue, or by purchasing a resale Debenture ticket. You can read all about those here.

Bottom line

Amex’s Last Minute tickets program definitely works … but only for those who can figure it out. Shame on Amex for treating its customers so poorly by intentionally making it harder to participate than it needs to be. But with these tips, if you’re interested in giving it a shot, you should at least have a chance to make it happen.
